Admitted to the Illinois Supreme Court, U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois (Trial Bar), and U.S. Court of Claims in Washington, D.C.

MEDIATION & ARBITRATION

In addition to her conventional civil litigation experience in state and federal court, Ms. Thamman has extensive experience arbitrating and mediating employment disputes. She also has served as an arbitrator for fifteen years for Cook and DuPage counties and has trained to be an arbitrator for FINRA disputes. She recently trained to become a mediator for the Chicago Bar Association.    

DISCRIMINATION LAW

Thamman Law Office can guide you through all stages of discrimination claims based on race, age, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, disability, national origin, and arrest record. She handles claims before the Equal Opportunity Commission (EEOC), the Illinois Department of Human Rights (IDHR), and both state and federal court.

EMPLOYMENT CONTRACTS

ABOUT RENU THAMMAN

Renu Thamman was born and raised in New Jersey, but she moved to the Chicago area to attend Northwestern University.  After graduating from Northwestern in 1993, she spent two years working as a paralegal for Kirkland and Ellis before enrolling in the University of Illinois College of Law in Champaign, Illinois.  She graduated cum laude in 1997.

After graduation, Ms. Thamman first worked as an Assistant Corporation Counsel for the City of Chicago’s Labor Division.  For more than eight years, she represented the City in discrimination claims, counseled leadership in more than 10 city departments, and handled hundreds of cases at many different administrative agencies including the City of Chicago’s Personnel and Police Boards, the Illinois Department of Human Rights, the Illinois Human Rights Commission, the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, and the Chicago Commission on Human Relations. 

After leaving the City of Chicago in 2006, Ms. Thamman has worked exclusively in the field of labor and employment law, representing individuals and small businesses with a wide range of problems.  She brings a practical and empathetic perspective to her practice.  

In addition to her legal work, Ms. Thamman enjoys nature, yoga, gardening and travel. She also volunteers for the Pro Bono Network and the Settlement Assistance Program through the Chicago Lawyers' Committee for Civil Rights.  Her most recent volunteer work is for the Legislative Committee for the Chicago Bar Association, working on legislative proposals for important employment issues.
